Driven by military needs for seabasing Thrustmaster developed
easily deployable, “portable” systems for maneuvering
or dynamic positioning of large vessels and structures. One
major advantage of dynamic positioning over anchoring is the
ability to immediately respond to threats.
The systems consist of modular thrusters and power units for
installation on deck or to the side walls of the structures.
Controls are usually automatic based on inputs from gyro’s,
wind sensors, DGPS and other position reference sensors.
The concept of using multiple self-contained modules provides
total freedom of configuration to allow for different applications
and operating environments. Thrusters and power units can
easily be added or removed in open seas without interrupting
the operations of the floating base facility.

- A barge of opportunity is converted to Thrustmaster's
Portable Dynamic Positioning System (PDPS) to test the ability
to hold position during the transfer of cargo and vehicles across
a ramp. During the test the Mighty Servant 3 was at anchor while
the barge was operated hands-free after the positioning system
was set.
